He Shall Be; He Shall Not

I home schooled both of my girls. One is soon to graduate from college; while, the other is in 10th grade. Why did I home school? I’ve been asked that more times than I can count at this point. And I started when it was not the “trendy” thing to do.

All I can say is I felt led by God to do so.  And because I was afraid of uncharted waters, unending scrutiny, and looking peculiar; I BEGGED God for the mercy of His confirmation.  Thankfully He obliged. And so I went forth. Not completely sure why we were called on this journey, but we tried to be as faithful as we possibly could be.

Luke 1:13-15 records the event when Zacharias was told his wife would have a son (they both were “up in age”). Here’s the deal. The angel told him his son “SHALL BE GREAT in the sight of the Lord.” Isn’t that exciting! But then the angel said he “SHALL NOT drink wine or strong drink.” Whoa! What a charge!

I would have wondered how to navigate adolescence and college years keeping this kid from NOT drinking wine or liquor. Or what if Zacharias or Elizabeth engaged in “social drinks”? Would they have to give up their social life to keep the son, who is to be called John, from drinking?

I don’t know if God said to me my children will be great in His sight (I choose to believe if they have faith and obey Him God is pleased!). And by no means greater than anyone else. But I do know He said they shall be given to His purpose. And they shall NOT go to public school.

What is God saying your children SHALL BE? What is He saying they SHALL NOT do in order to BE?  Are you willing to obey and sacrifice? John did some pretty amazing things for the Lord. What might be riding on your “Yes”? #MoMusing #pondering #parenting #sacrifices #followingGod #homeschooling #faith #obedience #purpose #calling #walkyeinit #notbysight #journaling #inmyheart #blog #blogger #birthing #writer #thinker #thawing #hereami
